My name is Emily Daigle. I was born and raised in New Jersey and I am currently in my last year at Rider University. I am an Elementary Education and Integrated Sciences and Math double major with a Physical Science concentration and minor in Middle School. I started my higher education at Raritan Valley Community College. I am very pleased with the education I received at the community college level. I am a big proponent of starting off in a community college, because they are not what they used to be. I received a great education and got a little bit more time to decide on the four year university I wanted to attend, while saving money.

While at school, I work for the Office of Admission where I am a Senior Admission Fellow. Being a fellow is a responsibility that I was given by showing great leadership skills during my first year as a tour guide for the university. I am also very involved with different clubs and organizations, including the Student Education Association, the Council for Exceptional Children, and the Association of Commuting Students. I am also a peer mentor for transfer students aiming to help ease their transition to the university.
When I'm not at school, I work at Toys R Us and a registry consultant and customer service agent. I really enjoy working at Toys R Us, especially as a registry consultant because I get to work with people and hear their stories. I also enjoy volunteering and helping great causes. A group of us from Toys R Us have volunteered at an Autism Speaks walk and a 5K in honor of a young girl who passed away after a fight with cancer. |

I also enjoy spending time outside and traveling. I have been to Ireland, England, Canada, and France. I love spending time immersed in the culture of another country and I cannot wait to travel to more places, maybe somewhere tropical next. Almost every summer, for as long as I can remember, my family and I have taken a family vacation to the area in Maine where my parents met. Some of my favorite places in Maine are Height of Lands and Pemaquid Point Beach and Lighthouse.
I recently participated in a two week study abroad trip to Ireland where I studied special education. It was a fantastic experience being able to compare and contrast the US and Ireland's special education programs. While I will not be certified to teach special education, I highly value the experience I received learning about and working with students with additional needs. I was given the incredible opportunity to work collaboratively my professor Kathryn Suk and some fellow classmates on an amazing endeavor. We are incorporating the Choose2Matter initiative into the current course schedule for Professor Suk’s education classes. We are fortunate enough to have not only the backing of Angela Maiers, who created Choose2Matter, but also RVCC. Student Life afforded us the funds in order to travel to Rhode Island to witness this magic in action, and the Teagle Foundation graciously awarded us a grant for the work we are doing. We were been chosen as the recipient of the 2014 RVCC Board of Trustees’ Service Learning Leadership Award at the generous nomination of Professor Suk. This program has led to many other programs being developed. For more information, refer to the Teach2Matter@RVCC website. |
